The bass drum

A bass drum

The bass drum as the snare is a major component of the battery. It is also used independently in bands and orchestras in the classical (music from the baroque ). Its origin seems to be lost in the first age of mankind.

It currently comprises a cylindrical, two skins (typing and resonance) and its acastillage.

The diameter of the drum may vary between 18 inches and 26 inches for a kick drum and between 26 and 40 large crates of harmony . The bass drum is played by hand (with a mallet called stork) and the foot, with a pedal, since 1882, thanks to Roger Ludwig. In some styles of music, you can use double bass drum pedal, that fires with two feet, which can strike twice as fast. Another style pedal can hit twice as fast with one foot.

The bass drum has the lowest audio frequency of the battery. It serves primarily to give a dynamic marking the highlights ( rock ) or as rhythmic accompaniment of bass and melody ( jazz ). Some batteries have two bass drums.

Glossary

Baroque period

The baroque period covers a large period in the history of music. It extends from the early XVIIth century at about the middle of the XVIIIth century, more or less uniform across the countries considered. As a necessarily schematic, aesthetics and inspiration baroque follow those of the Renaissance and above those of classicism.

Classical period

The Music "Classic" includes music written by agreement between the death of Johann Sebastian Bach is 1750 and the beginning of the Romantic period or the 1820s. By extension, called  "classical music" all european art music, music from the Renaissance to contemporary music. It is therefore necessary to separate the classical music, composers whose headlights are Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Christoph Willibald Gluck, and classical music opposed to popular music in the West or elsewhere (referred to "Indian classical music," for example).

The harmony

In its broadest sense, the word harmony means traditionally one of the four elements of music - the others being the rhythm, the melody and timbre.
Harmony is the deliberate use of frequencies simultaneously, with a view to provide relief and depth to the song or instrumental performance : she represents the aspect vertical music, while the melody is the aspect horizontal.

The jazz

The jazz is a music type born in the United States at the beginning of the XXth century. Existent of the crossroads of the blues, the ragtime and European music, the jazz is considered to be the first specific musical form to have developed in the United States.

Melody

In a music system, the word melody means the dimension that takes into account the heights emitted by a source, individual or collective, instrumental or vocal in a musical production of any kind. The main melody is opposed to the rhythm, another component of the music.
Because it is a succession of sounds with different frequencies, a melody is a succession of intervals. Indeed, from the standpoint of the interpreter, like that of the listener, each note of a melody is determined by the melodic interval that separates it from the previous note.

The Rock

The rock is a genre of popular music that began in the 1960s.
The genre has its roots in rock 'n' roll, rhythm and blues, country, 1940s and 1950s as well as in folk music, jazz and classical music. It is characterized by a dominant vocal melody, often accompanied by one (or more) electric guitar, bass guitar and drums, but can also be accompanied by synth / piano, brass or other instruments.

During the late 1960s and early 1970s, rock developed a number of sub-genres. It was blended with folk music, (which gave the folk rock), with the blues (blues rock) and jazz (jazz-rock fusion).
In the 1970s, rock was influenced by soul, funk, and Latin music. Also during the 1970s, rock developed many sub-genres like soft rock, glam rock, heavy metal, hard rock, progressive rock, and punk rock.

Among the sub-genres of rock that emerged during the 1980s there is the new wave, hardcore punk and alternative rock.
During the 1990s, the new sub-genres include rock grunge and Britpop, indie rock, and nu metal.

A group of musicians specializing in rock is called a rock band. Most rock bands are composed of an electric guitarist, a lead singer, a bassist and a drummer, forming a quartet. Some groups omit one or more of these roles include a singer or playing an instrument, even as he sings, forming a trio or duo; others include additional musicians such as one or two rhythm guitarist or a keyboardist. Less commonly, groups also utilize stringed instruments like violins or cellos, wind instruments like a saxophone, brass or instruments such as trumpets or trombones.

More recently, the term rock was used as a generic term including forms like pop music, soul and even hip hop, with whom he is often opposed. [One] The Rock has become a "philosophy "with its cultural dominance, film comics through fashionable clothing.
